Chief Renner G. Ibot-Oron, the Head Chief of Ibot Oron family of Ekede kingdom in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has asserted that when little efforts of individuals in society are recognised, energize the awardees to do more.
He made the assertion in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital last Friday September 4, 2026 when responding to an ‘Award of Excellence in Leadership and Community Development’ bestowed on him by members of South South Media Practitioners Forum (SSMPF).
Chief Renner Ibot-Oron who pointed out that he never knew that his little contributions to the betterment of society were being watched stated: “You see, this award will energize me to do more. All this while we’ve been doing, not knowing that people have been watching. Now that we know that people are watching, I think by the grace of God, we’ll do more to the glory of God and humanity.”
He thanked SSMPF for finding him worthy of the award, saying, “First of all, I want to thank God for today in my life, who made it possible for this award to be possible. It’s not by my power, nor by my strength but by the grace of God that the South South Media Practitioners Forum saw something and spotted somebody like me to be honoured today.
“I must thank you for taking your time to figure me out and honouring me today. Thank you for the award.”
Goodwill messages at the award ceremony commended the awardee for his numerous contributions to the development of society, particularly his community.
Also speaking, Leticia, the Awardee’s daughter stated, “I speak on behalf of the children of the awardee. Actually, this is not a surprise to us because he actually deserves it. He’s one of the best things that had happened to us. So, him receiving this award, we know that this is just the little of it and that more are coming. And we appreciate God who had made it possible. We know that by the grace of God, this award will make him to do more.”
Earlier, before presentation of the award, SSMPF National leader, Mr Steve. O. Donald’s remarked that the award is given in recognition of a man “whose life and reign embody the true meaning of traditional leadership, not just in title, but in action. A man who has chosen to lead with compassion, to rule with wisdom and to serve with an open heart.”
In his citation, SSMPF National Secretary stated that the awardee is a son of Ekede kingdom whose life has been defined by service, loyalty and commitment to community’s peace and development.
