In an effort at enhancing the recent security deal with the United States of America (USA), President Bola Tinubu last Sunday February 8, 2026 received a high-level delegation from the United States military at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The delegation was led by the Commander of the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), General Dagvin R. Anderson, and included the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Keith Heffern, along with other senior officials.
The visit was confirmed in a statement by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Mr. Dada Olusegun, who said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received General Anderson, his team, and the U.S. envoy at the State House, Abuja.

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and other service chiefs joined President Tinubu in welcoming the visitors at the State House in Abuja.
Although details of the closed-door discussions were not disclosed, the meeting comes amid deepening security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

The meeting, observers point out, coming on the heels of a rumoured US deployment of a small team of troops to Nigeria on February 3 confirmed the fact that the Americans are here to stay.
