Serious condemnations and negative reactions are trailing the recent malicious and defamatory Facebook posts of Sandra C. Duru, alias Prof Mgbeke against Commissioner of Police (CP) Akin Fakorede, Head of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit in Abuja, describing it as an unwarranted attack aimed at destroying his hard earned reputation.
The recent condemnation against her seditious and malicious posts came from Friends of Akin Fakorede (FAF), a group of his friends and admirers who frown against such unwarranted posts and publications which they observed are against our laws and security architecture.
FAF National Chairman, Dr Okorieem Mente told our Correspondent in a telephone chat that his group had initially decided to overlook her rantings which he observed were seeking for cheap publicity, leveraging on the popularity of our friend, a rising top cop.
But that his group later decided to first warn her about the consequences of her actions and advise her to desist from dragging their friend into needless controversies as his group, “would not hesitate to invoke the relevant sections of the new Cybercrimes law against her.”
He further observed that her false, criminal and seditious posts also disparages our security architecture before the international community, capable of portraying Nigeria as a lawless country, thereby blocking the much needed foreign direct investments (FDI). “If she has petitioned the IGP about the official misconduct of Akin Fakorede, why not wait for the outcome of her petition?” he asked.
Dr Mente also explained that in line with our laws, it is subjudicious to comment on any matter before a competent Court of law in the country, pointing out that issues arising therefrom should be appropriately reported to the court concerned.
Earlier, the Integrity Youth Alliance (IYA) had strongly condemned Prof Mgbeke posts, describing it as a malicious attempt to tarnish the reputation of Akin Fakorede.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Kelvin Adegbenga, the group dismissed claims that CP Fakorede is “a criminal in police uniform,” insisting that the officer is a man of proven integrity, a barrister at law, and a professional whose career has been defined by honour and dedication to justice.
The Alliance stressed that CP Fakorede has never engaged in intimidation tactics, abuse of office, obstruction of justice, or any form of misconduct as alleged.
It further described Prof. Duru’s call for the suspension and investigation of CP Fakorede as baseless and an attempt at blackmail. “The Integrity Youth Alliance stands firmly with CP Akin Fakorede, a police officer of repute and a barrister who has served Nigeria honourably.”
