Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt, a Nigeria Premier Football League side were on Thursday June 4, 2026 involved in a road accident.
The road mishap occurred while the team was travelling to Awka, Anambra State, for their President’s Federation Cup Round of 16 clash against Nasarawa United.

The club confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the accident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt, the state capital shortly after the team departed from camp.
According to the statement, while no fatalities or life-threatening injuries were recorded, some players and officials sustained minor injuries.
The statement added that all affected individuals were receiving medical attention and were in stable condition.

“The safety, health and well-being of our players and officials remain our utmost priority. We can confirm that some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities or life-threatening injuries reported,” the club stated.

Recalls that the Port Harcourt-based club secured a place in the Round of 16 on Monday after defeating Rangers International 3-2 and are scheduled to face Nasarawa United in Awka on Saturday.
