Dr Doyin Okupe Dies At 72

Former Media Aide to ex Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Doyin Okupe is dead. He d!ed in a hospital in Lagos on Friday, March 7 at the age of 72.
 
 Family sources indicate that Dr. Okupe had been ill in the weeks leading to his death, having lost the battle to cancer on Friday morning.
 
The late Dr Okupe, son of late Chief Matthew Adekoya Okupe was born on 22 March 1952 in Iperu in Ogun State. He attended St. Jude’s School in Ebute Metta, Lagos; Igbobi College in Yaba, Lagos and the University of Ibadan in Ibadan, Oyo State.
 
Dr Okupe, a medical doctor held several political appointments before his death, including Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2002, he was a governorship aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Ogun State, and was a major contender along with former Governor Gbenga Daniel.

In 2012, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him as his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs and also served as the spokesperson of the Peter Obi Presidential campaign.
 
He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
