The Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Humanities, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumini, Port Harcourt, has organized a two-day maiden conference focused on digital communication practices.

The conference, held recently, was themed – “Digital Invasion: Navigating Communication Practices for Sustainable Development in the 21st Century”.

Delivering the first lead paper, Prof. Godwin B. Okon said adaptability is key to navigating digital communication. He noted that in the era of Artificial Intelligence, communication has become a critical tool for sustainable development in any society.

Prof. Okon urged academic institutions, professional bodies including the press, lecturers, and students to embrace current digital communication practices. He stressed that the benefits of digital communication to students and lecturers cannot be overemphasized.

Speaking with journalists, the Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Ibiere Maduako, said the conference was organized to educate participants on the importance of technology in communication.

According to her, digital communication has driven sustainable development and made global communication easier. She urged users of digital communication to apply it positively for sustainable development.

Also speaking, the Head of Department of Mass Communication, IAUE, Dr. Scholastica Amadi, reiterated the department’s commitment to organizing the maiden conference. She said the department, though only two years old, has the capacity to make the faculty and university proud.

Dr. Amadi stated that the conference demonstrated the department’s capacity to compete favorably with other departments. She described the theme as timely, noting that the realities of digital communication must be embraced by all, especially Mass Communication students.

She thanked the Vice Chancellor of the university, the Dean, and the students for the success of the conference.
