Commissioner of Police Akin Victor Fakorede, a trained legal practitioner and seasoned forensic criminal investigator in the Nigeria Police Force has been redeployed from Head of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for higher duties and responsibilities.

Although, his new posting is yet to be made public, inside Police sources hinted that his new posting would be to a higher responsibilities in preparation for his promotion to the next rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

The redeployment was reportedly approved by the current Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

CP Fakorede assumed leadership of the Monitoring Unit in December 2024, following his appointment by the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. During his tenure, he was known for sticking to professional policing, accountability and evidence-based investigations across the Force.

Professional Profile
CP Fakorede is widely regarded as a lawyer-turned-police officer whose career has been shaped by investigative diligence and legal expertise. His academic background in law has enabled him to approach criminal investigations with strong analytical skills, ensuring that police procedures align with legal standards and due process.

Over the years, he has served in several strategic positions within the Nigeria Police Force, gaining recognition as a forensic investigator and operational commander with a focus on tackling organized crime, armed robbery, and complex criminal networks.

Before his appointment to the IGP Monitoring Unit, Fakorede served as Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Rivers State, where he led numerous operations targeting violent crime and kidnapping syndicates before the nationwide disbandment of SARS.

Some key Achievements in the Nigeria Police Force
Throughout his career, CP Fakorede has been associated with several professional accomplishments within the Force, including:
(A) Strengthening investigative standards through the application of forensic and intelligence-driven policing methods.
(B) Leading high-profile anti-crime operations in Rivers State that disrupted armed robbery and kidnapping networks.
(C) Promoting accountability and oversight while heading the IGP Monitoring Unit, where he supervised investigations and compliance with police procedures across various commands.
(D) Advocating for professional policing practices, drawing on his legal background to improve case preparation and evidence handling.
(E) Engaging with civil society platforms, including public interactions where his commitment to justice and fair policing was acknowledged.

His dedication to service also earned him public recognition from civic groups and media platforms, including a notable moment of appreciation during a live broadcast of the Berekete Family program in Abuja, where audience members applauded his efforts as a committed law-enforcement officer.

Controversies, disinformation and Media Attacks
In recent years, several reports—particularly from notable online media outfits — have circulated spurious allegations regarding CP Fakorede’s past activities. These claims ranged from accusations related to police brutality to his alleged involvement in disputes such as the River Park Estate land controversy in Abuja, as well as issues connected to political developments in Rivers State.

Public commentary on these matters also included remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who referenced Fakorede’s tenure during televised interviews. He forgot his own oppressive and authoritarian tendencies that were checkmated by Fakorede who rebuffed his corrupt moves.

However, many of the allegations remain contested or unsupported by judicial findings. In certain cases—such as the River Park Estate dispute—subsequent legal actions, including decisions by the Office of the Attorney-General and court proceedings, produced outcomes that differed from earlier investigative positions, reflecting legal and procedural complexities rather than proven misconduct.

A Career Marked by Service
CP Fakorede’s redeployment comes amid broader administrative adjustments within the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Disu. While leadership changes are common in the security sector, Fakorede’s career continues to reflect a blend of legal expertise, investigative experience, and operational policing.

As a senior officer with years of service dedicated to combating crime and strengthening investigative standards, CP Akin Victor Fakorede remains a respected figure in policing circles, known for his commitment to professional law enforcement and institutional integrity.
