The tragic death of a Nigerian businessman, Mr. Nnamdi Joseph in police custody in Douala, Cameroon due to medical negligence has sparked outrage among Nigerians in the country.
Our online reporter gathered that what began as a minor case of a stolen car headlamp turned into a wrongful detention, medical negligence and alleged extortion, ultimately leading to his untimely death.
Reports indicate that while in detention, Mr. Nnamdi’s blood pressure shot up to a critical 193/105, yet instead of receiving proper medical attention, he was administered Tramadol, a painkiller unsuitable for his condition.
His health deteriorated rapidly, yet police officers allegedly delayed his release, demanding bribes before allowing him to receive urgent medical care. Sadly, he passed away shortly after being taken to the hospital.
In response, the Nigerian community in Cameroon, led by the Consul General of Nigeria, Ambassador Enya Francis Ntui is demanding justice for the deceased businessman.
Ambassador Ntui has vowed to escalate the matter to Cameroonian authorities, calling for accountability for those responsible for Nnamdi’s wrongful detention and medical neglect.
Nigerians in Cameroon, known for conducting lawful business activities, have expressed concerns over police misconduct and the targeting of Nigerians. They insist that justice for Nnamdi is justice for all Nigerians, urging authorities to address abuses within the security forces to prevent similar tragedies.
