Unity Cup Friendly: Coach Chelle Opts For More  NPFL Stars

The head coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle may likely make some adjustments to the final list of players who will represent the team in the upcoming Unity Cup friendly tournament in England to include more home based stars from the domestic league.

Chelle has already submitted a provisional list to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and players who made the list have been contacted on their availability for the tournament, where they will open their campaign against Ghana on the 28th of May.

Most of the stars of the team are expected to skip this tournament and play in the game against Russia, a situation that has forced Chelle into making changes to his preferred final squad by adding more players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The coach initially had just three of them, but the number could swell to seven or even more with more of the established players not available for the tournament.

A win in that game will see them take on the winner of the other game of the tournament between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. Nigeria will then travel to take on Russia in June.
