The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has appointed Commodore Reginald Odeodi Adoki as the new Commander of its Maritime Guard Command (MGC), a move aimed at reinforcing the country’s maritime security framework.
The appointment, approved by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas takes immediate effect. Commodore Adoki replaces Commodore H.C. Oriekeze, who has been redeployed.

Adoki brings more than 25 years of operational, staff and training experience in the Nigerian Navy to the role. A principal Warfare Officer with specialisation in communications and intelligence, his posting is widely seen as a strategic fit as NIMASA deepens collaboration with the Navy to secure Nigeria’s territorial waters.
As a seaman, Adoki has commanded several naval platforms, including NNS Andoni, NNS Kyanwa and NNS Kada. Notably, it was under his leadership that NNS Kada undertook her maiden voyage, sailing from the United Arab Emirates, where the vessel was built to Nigeria.

Commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2000 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Adoki has since expanded his academic and professional credentials. He holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and an MSc in Terrorism, Security and Policing from the University of Leicester, England.
He is currently pursuing a PhD in Defence and Security Studies at the National Defence Academy (NDA). He is also a highly decorated officer, having received several medals for distinguished service.
The nationonline reports that welcoming the new commander, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, expressed confidence in Adoki’s appointment, emphasising that his vast experience would further strengthen the nation’s maritime security architecture.

The Maritime Guard Command, domiciled within NIMASA, was established following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Navy. The arrangement is designed to enhance the agency’s operational efficiency in Nigeria’s territorial waters, particularly in the enforcement of maritime security, safety and regulatory compliance.
