Rivers PRP Chairman Asked To Resign Over Conflict Of Interest

A member of the Rivers State branch of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has petitioned the National Chairman of the party asking for the resignation of the state chairman, Mr Nature Dumale Kieghe over conflict of interest.

Investigations by our Correspondent revealed that the petition, dated May 15, 2026 was delivered to the national secretariat of the party in Abuja four days after on May 19, 2026, in which the state chairman is accused of using his position to influence his own election, without first resigning as chairman.

This, according to the petitioner is illegal, null and void because it places other aspirants for the same position in an undue advantage.

In the petition, the petitioner who declined names on print stated that Section 66, Subsection 1, Paragraph C of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended bars persons seeking elective offices from holding certain positions, adding that the chairman ought to have stepped down to avoid disqualification.

He described the conduct as “contradictory and unlawful,” citing the legal maxim, “Nemo judex in causa sua,” meaning that, ‘a person cannot be a judge in his own case’.

Baba-Ahmed, PRP National Chairman

“In light of the above, I urge that Mr. Nature Dumale Kieghe be disqualified, so that the opposition parties do not disqualify them as they are aware of the issue,” the petition stated.

There has been no official response to the petition so far and efforts to contact the national spokesman of the party for confirmation and comments proved abortive as at press time.
