The management of the Airforce Market at the Eleme Junction area of Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State has assured its customers of plans to restore the sale and distribution of pepper and tomatoes in the market..

Manager of the market, Mr. Solomon Orsemuvre disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in his office in the market. According to the manager, there had been lack of tomatoes and peppers sales in the market over sometime but added that negotiations are ongoing with some farmers to restore the sale of the products in the market.

“I can’t really explain why the sales of tomatoes and peppers stopped in the market. But it was said to be due to a minor disagreement between the then management of the market and the traders,” Orsemuvre stated.

He however assured that the new management under his leadership are looking into other alternatives with the view to establishing new ideas to improve business operations in the market.

On the impact of the recent imposition of emergency rule on the State, the Airforce Market Manager stated that there was an initial expressions of fears by customers and traders who usually brought in goods from the Northern part of the country when the action was announced but stated that confidence of customers and businesses had been restored as there had been no incidences of crises in the state.

He listed some of the notable challenges in the market to include poor road network and insecurity within the Market, adding that the management plans to structure the market into different sections to make the place accessible to customers and traders.

Orsemuvre described the relationship between the market authority and the host community as cordial and debunked the perceptions that the market belong to the Hausa people.
