The African Democratic Congress (ADC), House of Representatives aspirant for the Obio Akpor Federal Constituency, King Tony Boms has alleged thar the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigerian Police are the biggest riggers of elections in the country.
King Boms made the allegations after undergoing clearance at the State office of the ADC in Port Harcourt, accused the INEC and the Nigerian police of being behind incidences of rigging of elections in the country.
According to Amb Boms, the INEC and the Police has the capacity and determination to stop all forms of election rigging in the country, adding that politicians cannot influence outcomes of elections without the collaborations and complicity of INEC and the Police.
“The biggest riggers of elections in the whole country are the INEC and the Nigerian Police. If they say there will be no rigging in any elections, it will happen. If the police tells INEC, you cannot rig any election or the INEC tells police, we will not allow your actions to favour anybody, it will not happen,” he stated.
The House of Representatives aspirant who explained that no politician can on its own rig an election without the collusion of INEC and the Police, however cautioned both bodies to be reasonable, accountable and transparent in their actions considering what he termed, the need to salvage the country from it’s sliding state.
“INEC and the police needs to see that the nation needs to be salvaged and that we need transparency, justice, equity and accountability to do the needful in our electoral system, to uphold the honour and integrity of the country. INEC and the police owe us this,” he said.
Amb. Boms while commending the ADC for its transparency in the screening exercise, however frowned at the negative impacts of election rigging on the image of the country and called on the authorities involved in the nation’s electoral process to emulate other nations where transparent elections have been conducted.
“They are only putting people to sufferings, INEC should stand up and the police should also see why the country needs to stand,” the aspirant said.
