Monarch Urges Govt To Combat Oyigbo Flooding

The Traditional Ruler of Oyigbo Urban in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers state, Eze Kingsley Akobundu Worgu (JP), the Ezeoha IV has lamented the menace of flooding during raining seasons in the town.

Eze Akobundu, who spoke to newsmen on Saturday September 6, 2025 in his Palace in Oyigbo town on the challenges facing the area, expressed dismay over the age long neglect of the area in the developmental plans of the State and appealed to the state authorities to assist the people combat the menace of flooding in the area, particularly during the rainy season.

The Monarch equally called for the intervention of government on the deplorable state of roads and other social infrastructures in the town, pleading that Oyigbo kingdom should not be overlooked and abandoned in the development plans of the Government.

“This place is home to over three million people of Rivers State. People are moving away from the area because of the flooding situation. We need good road networks, electricity, water supply among other social amenities. Oyigbo needs liberation,” the Ezeoha stated.

Eze Akobundu also felicitated with the newly elected Chairman of the Council, Hon. Okechukwu Akara and the entire Oyigbo Local Government Executive and legislative Council over their recent victory at the polls, describing them as men of sound and progressive mind, who will move Oyigbo to the next level of development.

He urged them to rise up to the occasion and tackle the myriads of challenges facing the Local Government, including the issues of Kidnapings, robbery, stealing and other evils happening in the area.

Just as he also charged those elected into the leadership of the Council to be magnanimous in victory in the spirit of sportsmanship and carry everyone along in the schemes of development in the Local Government Area.
