Partial compliance today greeted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s cancellation order of the Mondays sit at home action across the South East region of Nigeria which had crumbled businesses in the last five years.
Our Correspondent who is monitoring the order across the region reports that normalcy is gradually returning to the region as schools, markets and businesses across major cities in the zone reopened today, Monday, February 9, 2026.
This is coming on the heels of the final and absolute cancellation of the controversial Monday “sit-at-home” order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to him, as at the time of filing this report this morning, in cities like Onitsha, Aba, Enugu and other hotspots of the action, the atmosphere today was one of cautious optimism despite heavy security presence.
Traders at the Main Market, Onitsha in Anambra State and Ariaria International Market, Aba in Abia State returned to full operations, ending years of losing an estimated ₦13 billion every Monday to the civil disobedience exercise.
“Schools, which had previously shifted their calendars to accommodate the “ghost town” syndrome on Mondays, have now fully resumed their five-day academic week, to the relief of parents and educators,” he reports.
Recall that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the weekend cancelled its sit at home action across the South East in protest against the illegal abduction and trial of its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
According to IPOB Spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful, Kanu instructed the leadership to suspend the action in the interest of peace and the return of normal economic activities in the region.

The group said the move is aimed at easing hardship on residents and allowing businesses, schools and other daily activities to run without disruption.
This is not the first time Kanu is ordering a stop to the protest action that has continued to impact negatively on the economy of the region, renowned for its bustling commercial activities.
The IPOB supreme leader had two years ago in 2024 issued a similar order which was disregarded by Simeon Ekpa, his deputy who had continued to enforce the order from far away Finland.
