The Rivers State Police Command has banned the illegal practice of officers Subletting their official barracks accommodation to their colleagues after being retired/transferred out of the command.

A wireless message from the state command dated February 25, 2025 stated that the state police authorities have prohibited officers from selling or purchasing barracks accommodation from among officers of the command.

The memo with reference number CB:4001/RVS/VOL.60A/122, reads, “Order and directives. COMPOL (Commissioner of Police) has observed with dismay the way and manner police officers are illegally selling barracks accommodation to fellow officers when retired/transferred out of the command or relocating from the barracks accommodation.

“COMPOL directs that henceforth, on no account should any officer sell/buy barracks accommodation. All to ensure this is made a subject of lecture to personnel yours. Failure to adhere to this directive will be met with serious/decisive consequences.

“O/C works only: It is your responsibility to ensure this illegality is stopped without further delay. State Provost Marshal: You are to ensure you give the O/C works all necessary support in achieving COMPOL’S directive.”

The directive was addressed to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DECOMPOLS), the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the Department of Operations (DOPS), all Assistant Commissioners of Police (ALL ACPOLS), all Superintendents of Police (ALL SUPOLS), Heads of Departments (HODS), and Tactical Commanders (TACTICAL COMDRS).

All efforts to contact the state Command’s Spokeswoman for comments proved abortive as at press time.
